Being immobile has been the catalyst in a creative flurry that is my only outlet now, since driving, walking, swimming, and so many other activities have been hindered by this:
I can’t put any weight on it, so I’m wheelchair bound for 3 months. My only outlet is creativity, so I thought I’d post more of my art journal entries.
An old friend of mine sent me this picture of a wedding gift I made her way back in the late 70’s, I’d totally forgotten that I’d ever done it, so it was a nice surprise to see an embroidery project from so long ago!
These frames needed filling so I took the current themes in my life, hope and grace, and painted them.
One day I really needed a clipboard for a class that I was taking and I couldn’t just have something that wasn’t creative, so I painted and decorated this blank space.
My style is all over the place but that is my life right now, I have to be consistently creating … it is my happy place!
I have lots of time on my hands during the week and I chose to not let them be still, always working, always trying to be productive and creative. In one day I got all of these projects done:
Changing my winter motif vase into spring
Fixing a Lamp
I found this lamp at a garage sale originally priced at $15, but I got it for free because of some chips and scratches (and no one wanted to buy it…I saw the potential). It was easy to fix with some sandpaper and paint to restore it back to new.
Painted a Wooden Box
When I visited my sister a few weeks ago, we separated out and planted a variety of succulents.
Watered My Favorite Bonsai
I took a wooden box, added “fake” candles and “fake” boxwood for the centerpiece of the coffee table.
I love those creative, busy days, they actually feel like you accomplish so much and then you have new things transformed in your home. Everything new!
I guess because I have so many Altoid tins that I’ve collected over the years, I figured I’d do something with them again. Last year I used the bottom of the tins turning them into ornaments, that became my most pinned pin on Pinterest! Those ornaments are still my #1…but I still had all the lids to turn into projects and decided to make a few more.
Last year’s review: 2013 Altered Altoid tins.
Here is my new 2014 line-up of tins:
These are much more colorful and detailed (just goes to prove with practice you can improve).
There are times when we can’t find ourselves, we’ve lost focus of what the Lord has ordained for us. It’s more than what we do, it’s more than what we perceive is going on, and we generally feel that we are abandoned. We feel condemned by not doing enough or anything at all.
Well, be of good cheer – God is will never leave you or forsake you, He loves you all the time in every circumstance. He is good and His love towards you will sustain you in every situation. His grace is more than sufficient and His mercy towards you is new every morning.
Be encouraged, take courage, exercise your faith, and BELIEVE.
Craft of the Day
My granddaughter Peyton was coming to visit me and I wanted to make something special that would bless her. I found a wooden letter in the clearance bin for a dollar and embellished it with a coat of paint, glued scrapbook paper on the top, and added all the bling I could (without being gaudy). She loved it!
I am in the crafting season, the part of the year that I crank out everything I can think of that my brain can creatively conceive. It is binge crafting on steroids. I will try and show you one thing I’ve done every time I post. Hope you enjoy my brain shmings!
Be sure to visit and have a little reading for this long weekend.
This summer I am setting aside the entire months of June and July to finish projects and start some new ones. First thing is the redecorating/remodel of our kitchen. It is so dated and needs an uplift. I was totally inspired when I went to IKEA last week and came up with this general concept…all things I can do (with a little help of course). I love the farmhouse sink, counter tops, shelving, drawer pulls – all from IKEA.
Of course there are all kinds of projects you can begin with the simplest purchased items from IKEA, I think I may try some of these myself. Here are a few below: click on the pictures to get a full view.

When I stumble across this birthday crown on Pinterest, I fell in love with it. Linda Albrecht of Maya Road makes these and it is featured on her site. Since both of my granddaughters have birthdays in May, I thought it would be a perfect surprise on their special day (making them myself of course). They could keep them as treasures for years to come and remember their Nannie.
